ICING.No Butter

Margarine will be fine for a simple icing for a slice (icing sugar, cocoa, knob of butter) but I wouldn't use it for buttercream as I don't like the taste

Glacé icing. Or melted chocolate! Maybe chocolate ganache!

This. Just mix icing sugar, cocoa and a smidge of water.

If you prefer the icing that sets, then yes it will be fine with no butter. If you want something a bit creamier, add margarine. I have done this lots of times when I've run out of butter - but make sure you add a bit of vanilla, helps kill the margarine-y taste.
