Icing question

poohbearfan3, Aug 22, 11:25pm
I'm making cup cakes on the weekend and I have two questions re the icing.
1.When do I add the food colouring to the icing!Do I make the icing up first and add the food colouring last!
2.How do I get my decorations to stay/stick into the icing!!Such as marshmallows and chocolate chips etc!So that they don't fall off!!

Thank you :)

1. Yep i always add last.
2. when icing is still soft add them so it can set with it in it if that makes sense!

Great, thanks. So pretty much straight away then.
Also do I wait until the cupcakes are completely cold to ice!

Stick the decorations to the cake with more icing. Will work for marshmallows, though with choc chips I would sprinke them on before the icing is dry.

What sort of icing are you using!

Buttercream icing (I think!!). What do you mean use more icing to stick them on!
Sorry I'm a novice!

Just ice 2 or 3 with the icing then stop and add the decorations, then do 3 more and then decorate them, its so much easier while the icing is still soft and sticky.
