Are you using a breadmaker or making it by hand!

I've had that problem too.Solved it by half-filling the breadmaker with hot water while measuring the ingredients.

This time of year the pan gets so cold that it cools the warm water ingredient too much to work the yeast.that's my theory, anyway and warming the pan first fixed it.

Of course that's if you're using a breadmaker.if you're doing it by hand I don't know what the problem is.

Chris96, I am no expert at breadmaking, but it sounds as though either there is not enough liquid in the dough, or the yeast has not been given enough time to work. Have you checked the expiry date on your yeast !

I kg sounds like a big loaf have you made it succesfully before!

Yeast rarely fails but its a living thing so it needs food, warmth and time usually if a loaf doesn't rise its because its too cold or too hot or it hasn't had enough time. I don't find old yeast to be a problem usually I had a packet that was 5 yrs old once and it was fine, was the yeast stored well!
