Edible glitter for cake decorating.

I want to put a gold glitter name on a cake.
The name will be large - the pot of glitter appears small.
The icing/background will be chocolate.

If I use a stencil to get the glitter in the right places - what kind of coverage can I expect! What's the best way to apply it with minimal waste and even coverage!

I must do this tomorrow for the birthday on sunday. I have a little time to buy anything needed.

Is the gold glitter going to be dramatic or Would I be best to pipe the name in white icing first to help it stand out!
The cake is about roasting dish size.

I have two blocks of milk chocolate to use for icing (will be my first time using that too, so any further hints appreciated.)For a 16yr old male. I was going to go for a sophisticated gold and black/brown look.
