Have brought a deep fryer and was wondering which spuds would be the best for making chips.

Floury spuds are best.Ilam Hardy, red rascal, Agria and Fianna according to Alison Holst

Agria make the absolute best roast potatoes so I can only guess they'd make yummy crunchy chips too.

whatever potato you use par boil the chips first and allow to cool - that is bring them up to the boil in the pot and then transfer to a colander. This way you only need to fry them once and if you prepare extra they can then be frozen for frying later.
