Got some friends comin round for dinner sat night, doing roast spuds but what is another side to have with roast chook, veg based of course - no cheese sauce please

If you are doing roast spuds then how about roasting parsnip and pumpkin with them as well plus boiled minted green peas and boiled buttered or honey glazed carrots and maybe cauliflower with white sauce. Don't forget the gravy. Prawn cocktail cocktail traditional entréewith this and apple pie and ice-cream for dessert.

Blanch brocolli florets until tender but not soft; drain well; put in a shallow dish and sprinkle toasted pinenuts, and shaved parmesan cheese on top (not too liberally unless you love the flavour).Then grill briefly to melt the cheese.Really nice.I also sometimes put the pinenuts on and then instead of the parmesan, a quick splash of lemon juice and sesame oil.Sounds odd but is very good.
