They are called Coconut Cream Buns (Pani Popo)

4 cups plain flour,
2 tsp dried yeast,
1/4 cup sugar,
60g melted butter,
1 beaten egg,
1 cup of lukewarm milk,
2 cans coconut milk.

Put the flour in a large bowl and make a well in the centre.
Add yeast and sugar and a bit of the lukewarm milk.
Mix with a fork and wait for 15 minutes till the yeast bubbles.
Add melted butter, beaten egg and rest of milk.
Knead to form a soft dough.
It should no longer stick to the edge of bowl.
Knead well on a lightly floured board, and place in an oiled bowl.
Roll dough around to cover lightly with oil.
Cover top of bowl with plastic film.
Leave in a warm place until it doubles in size (about 1 - 2 hours).

Divide into about 15 equal portions.
Shape each into a smooth ball.
Lightly oil a round cake tin.
Place balls inside, touching each other.
Allow to rise again until double in size.
Pour coconut milk over buns in tin, until milk reaches top of buns.

Place in pre-heated oven at 180*C and cook for 25-35 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.

Best eaten warm.

Good luck! :)":-))

I tried this recipe, its called dukaten yeast cakes. Basically you make a caramel sauce, place it in a tin/aluminium dish n let it cool. Then you arrange balls of bread dough on top.let it prove and bake. Basically as the bread bakes, it pulls up all the caramel sauce at the bottom into the bread. Yummy.

I just had a go at making these buns, the bread part turned out great, but I think there should be sugar mixed with the coconut milk to make it sweet - maybe one cup of sugar - the sauce should be thick when it comes out of the oven.
