Can I freeze fresh apple!

gardie, Jan 5, 5:19pm
The is not something I've actually thought about but I am wondering if it is worth slicing up one, popping it into a bag and freezing then defrosting a week later to see what its like. You would need to cook if afterward as it would be a bit mushy.

If you can freeze raw pumpkin pieces and then roast them, I don't see why you couldn't do this with an apple too.

because apples have far more water in them

You can freeze them if you wish to use them in cooking, apple sauce for example. I freeze them for that purpose and to make cider. They will become mushy upon defrosting so you wouldn't have a crunchy apple at the end.

I always cook the apples before freezing them. They are much easier to deal with later and more likely to get used.

Thanx. I will go on as usual and cook them first

Certainly suggest cooking first then freezing.

I have chopped them up and frozen them without cooking them. I grab a few pieces and put them in smoothies when I make them.
