Brown Betty.

steamed pudding.my Mother (85) keeps referring to this pudding that her mother used to make - when she asked her mother (many years ago of course) for the recipe.she didn't know what my mother was talking about.

Does anyone know what this might be.

Well the pudding I know as Brown Betty isn't a steamed pudding - more like a crumble but made with layers of breadcrumbs and melted butter

Thank you.I did also google it.and they all have apple.

So I have asked Mum if it had apple in it but she can't remember.but it is obvious from the recipes it isn't a steamed pudding as you say.I think age is now playing tricks on her memory.

I think you can use any fruit for a Brown Betty really just like you can with crumble - it's just that we always had apple
