Thickened Cream. When a recipe calls for

this, do you thicken the cream to a certain consistency or do you buy it as thickened cream!My recipe for mini xmas puddings has this ingredient. Thanks

You can buy thickened cream in pots which are shelved with the ordinary cream.It's lower fat than pouring cream and (from memory) is thickened with gelatine or pectin.

I wouldn't.It has a different taste and texture. It is also way more expensive.

clair4 is the thickened cream to add to the xmas pudding before cooking!
If so just use ordinary cream.
A lot of English and American recipes call for thickened cream as they have 3 types
1) pouring cream similar to our lite stuff
2) whipping cream similar to our ordinary cream
3) thickened cream which has a higher fat content than the whipping cream.
In NZ our ordinary cream will do for using as a substitute for all 3 types.

Thank you.It is for a pudding and I bought some
Anchor from the local shop this morning.Puddings are cooking right now, so hope they are nice.Used the recipe for mini puddings from the Sunbeam recipe.I give these away at Xmas.
