If it didnt matter there would be no need for it in the recipe.

If you are making the One Egg Chocolate Sponge it shouldn't matter as the recipe also states baking powder and soda is usually included in chocolate cake recipes to make them darker.

I would just add an extra quarter teaspoon of baking powder.

Bad budgel. Blunt logic is definitely frowned upon. Don't come over to the dark side or you will be tarred and feathered at every opportunity.

I never use baking soda in any baking. even if the redipe says too
