Place a wet piece of handee towel between the plates and then heat for a short time

I have always done it without any problems. For two plates I do them for one minute.

make sure you have moisture of some sort on the plates or you could damage the magnetron.

Yes I do it regularly.I never put moisture in so not sure how healthy the magnetron is though.

I place a folded paper napkin in between 2 plates, only takes about 40 secs.

I always use heated plates(except when serving salads). I run under tap then zap short time.
