Fenugreek in a curry do I need it?

I was going to make up the baked curried cricken that was on river cottage last week.It has 2 tsp of ground fenugreek in it, at this stage I haven't been able to buy it as its not at supermarket and I can't get to a bin inn during opening hours.I have all the other spices, cumin, coriander, fennel, tumeric. We don't eat much in the way of curries, so would prefer something reasonably mild - can I leave out the fenugreek??

Fenugreek has a strong and very distinctive taste, and 2 tsp is quite a lot, so if you leave it out the overall taste of the curry will be quite different.Maybe try another recipe - not all curries need it.

Dont need it at all. You have the main spices.

Don't you hate it when there are 2 conflicting answers !

Fenugreek can make a curry bitter, in my humble opinion. Substitute it with yellow mustard seeds

Thanks, sounds like I'll just leave it out.We rarely have curry but I saw this recipe and thought it sounded mild enough for us - should be real mild without the fenugreek!!
