Trying to make hot cross buns but

when I add the yeast to the warm milk its not going frothy as it is suppose to.Any ideas? Before I try for the 3rd time.

1.Is the milk too hot?Blood temperature is best.

2.Is the yeast live?If it is too old it might not be active.

3.Add a pinch of sugar to the milk to speed up the process.

maybe you are rushing. What sort of yeast are you using???Too much salt will kill the yeast as well. put the salt in with the flour.

I have just bought the yeast and it doesnt expire till next year. Should it go throthy straight away or when sitting for 15min?

I am using Edmonds instant dry yeast.

BTW the yeast is called instant because you do not have to froth it up first. Just mix all together from the start and kneed well
