Does anyone know if the meat referred to as "sausage mince" for the gravey for biscuits and gravey is actually sausage meat or do we call it something different from the Americans? Thanks in advance.

An American 'biscuit' is a fluffy white scone.

tipsy_blonde, here's my biscuit recipe, and I reckon its the buttemilk that gives them the different taste.
American “biscuits”
2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tspbaking soda
1 T baking powder
1 t of salt
6 TLard
¾ C buttermilk
Sift all dry ingredients together, cut lard into dry ingredients until you have a cumb like texture, add buttermilk and knead together, dough should be soft not sticky. Flatten to around 1/2 inch thick, wrap in foil and refrigerate for about 20 minutes. Cut dough out with a round cookie cutter then bake in oven at 450 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
