I've a lovely cake recipe by Lauraine Jacobs I've made for quite a few years now but I'm only making half this year (so 4 eggs instead of 8, 250g butter instead of 500g and 750g fruit instead of 1.5k) so it will still make a reasonable size cake but should I cook it for less time? - it usually takes four hours.Also I always seem to burn the top - any tips to preventing this from happening?

A smaller cake should take less time.Keep checking with a skewer to test.Cover top of cake loosely with tin foil.
