Apple sauce for bottling

loopydog, Nov 13, 4:05am
Hi, I've just got a bunch of apples and I'd like to make a batch of applesauce in jars to bring out as needed. is this possible, or does it have to be frozen? are there any great recipes out there?

TIA, Jenny

Just proceed with the apple sauce as you do with jam. Have the sauce as hot as possible, poor into hot jars and seal with sterilized bottling lids. Hope this helps.

does it need sugar or anything, or just stewed apple?

I've bottled apple sauce for years and just use apples,a little water, sugar to taste, couple of cloves and some very finely chopped lemon zest. Sometimes I throw a few raisins in so that I can use it for baking things such as apple shortcake. You'll be very happy you have it during the winter months. Enjoy.

No sugar needed unless you have really sour apples. I just use a little water and some lemon juice.I prefer to bottle it plain and add any other flavourings when I use it as it seems more versatile that way.
