Do you mean sumac? Sumac is a dried berry and has a fruity, tart flavour. It is sometimes used in the middle East as a substitute for lemon.
It's a great addition to meat dishes, and has a particular affinity with tomatoes and eggplant. It comes mixed with a little salt, so be careful when adding more salt to the dish.

you can also use it on the table instead of salt. nice on roast pumpkin or in pumpkin salad.
