nzoomed, Jul 26, 9:28pm

pootang1, Jul 27, 12:53am
Where do you buy accent from?

nzoomed, Jul 27, 12:59am
its basically MSG, its just a brand in the states, which is slightly different, but normal MSG will do.

darlingmole, Jul 27, 2:09am
nzoomed - where can you buy MSG in Auckland?

On the KFC related part of this ... has anyone sprinkled their chips with Vegetta? It tastes JUST like KFC chips!

nzoomed, Jul 27, 5:53am
i dont know, i guess chinese food supply shops would have it. i see 2 bags of the stuff here on TM.
Try it without the MSG first and see how it tastes :)

andrea1978, Jul 27, 6:42am
What's Vegetta?

motorbo, Jul 27, 6:51am
i find it hard to believe that - that combination of spices would make kfc flavour

nfh1, Jul 27, 9:20am
Or is this the one? ? ?

Kentucky Fried Chicken Spice
1 tablespoon thyme
1 tablespoon oregano leaves
1 tablespoon powdered sage
1 teaspoon powdered ginger
1 teaspoon marjoram
1 teaspoon celery salt
1 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons pepper
1 teaspoon white pepper
1 tablespoon paprika
2 tablespoons garlic salt
2 tablespoons onion salt
1 teaspoon accent or msg (OPTIONAL)

they all seem to have lots of salt in them.

krames, Jul 27, 9:27am
msg just as bad for you as e951 aspertaine (sp).

darlingmole, Jul 27, 9:28am
you can get it at Pak'n'Save (and some fruit/vege shops). It's a smallish blue tin with a picture of a chef wearing a white chefs hat on it. It's basically vege stock from made somewhere overseas. Approx $5. 50 -8. 00 ish/tin depending on where you buy it. It's a real flavour enhancer

marcs, Jul 27, 9:29am
KFC batter itself is very salty.

nzoomed, Jul 27, 9:31pm
there's lots of variants to this recipe, alot seem to have at least 3 of the same ingredients. Speaking of MSG, i have read somewhere that KFC stopped using it about 10 years ago, so its obviously not essential, but will be interesting to compare.

kimkat1, Jul 27, 9:35pm
I use it at least once a week, and the whole family loves it, it makes a medium sized container full so you aren't getting all that salt at once... It is very tasty, not quite the same as KFC but close and a yummy treat on chicken, I just flour , egg and then the topping like when I use breadcrumbs, gives a thick cruchy topping, but it works just putting the chicken straight in some too... Hope that helps. . oh and I don't add MSG or whatever that is... .

aragorn2003, Jul 27, 9:38pm
thats why kfc doesnt taste like it used to

nauru, Jul 28, 1:52am
Vegeta is a stock powder which contains MSG
