When the stars make you drool like a pasta fazool'

'That's Amore! '

Despite having lived in an Italian home for many years, I had never had pasta e fagioli - pasta & beans, & had no idea that was the revered pasta fazoole. (Sicilian slang)

My 11yo son loves all pasta, and loves chilli beans too. Perfetto!

I'm doing the one from allrecipes tomorrow, but I imagine it's a very flexible dish, grated carrot & olives will be in mine.

Anyone care to share their twist on Pasta soup / pasta fagioli?

Grazie!

Hi papariccardo .
Good to find out the real words to that song line. I always thought it was 'busta fazoo'!

Wondered what a Busta Fazoo was.

I loved Deam Martin singing it.

Think you have to be a bit pickled to listen to that song (okay I think I have everytime I've heard it)

ciao riccardo! Yeah I've always wanted to try this after working out what "fazool" was! It was our wedding song btw!
Look forward to seeing a recipe or two!
Hey where are you from?

G'day all.

I'm testing the recipe tonight on Mr11yo, and will post results. He has been spoiled all his life with amazing yet simple healthy Italian food courtesy of his authentic Italian mamma - he is a challenge now to feed. She had the dis/advantage of growing up poor in the rural south of Italy, and accordingly can make magic from very little. Most Italian menu faves, including this one, originated in peasant kitchens.

Absolutely, it's a pre-requisite. Try reciting this after a bottle of fave vino...

"In Napoli where love is king
When boy meets girl here's what they say

When the moon hits you eye like a big pizza pie
That's amore
When the world seems to shine like you've had too much wine
That's amore
Bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you'll sing "Vita bella"
Hearts will play tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay
Like a gay tarantella

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool
That's amore
When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You're in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you're not
Dreaming signore
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli
That's amore

Pasta fazool was buonissimo! Used Rachel Rays recipe for pasta e fagioli.

Here's our quick-and-dirty version for a really fast emergency meal.
Put water on to boil for your preferred pasta.
In a separate pan, brown some mince and set it to simmer in the contents of a tin of savoury tomatoes. Add a tin of chilli beans.
Stick some rapidly prepared broccoli in with the last few minutes of the pasta cooking time. Or spinach/silverbeet.
Serve the chili bean sauce over the pasta and broccoli with a sprinkle of your preferred grated cheese.
Sorted in 20 minutes.
Serves three or four adults - or two teenage boys.
