Split Peas

Im making turkish beef and split pea stew but it doesnt say if its green or yellow split peas what would be the difference? when we were in Turkey they used red lentils a lot in fact nearly lived on red lentil soup!

Personally, I can't see how it would matter which ones you use, but I have never used yellow, so I don't know what the difference would be apart from the colour. chuck some of both in and try

Some lentils will probably stay firmer than others once cooked is all I can think of, but I suppose if you boil the bejesus out of any lentils they will turn to mush eventually

Green or brown lentils will keep their shape more that yellow or green split peas. We loved the lentil soup in Turkey and ate it often.

use a 50/50 mix.

I used the green I had but it did go mushy and too thick, was lovely and will make again but will use chickpeas next time, I loved the lentil soup in turkey too nauru.
