And the price should be dropping as you get closer to Christmas because of competition and over supply.

Where does that happen? Certainly not where I shop. They are usually sold out by Xmas and if you want one for New Year either buy before Xmas or at least order it.

The 2 butchers I inquired at have either $16.96 and $15.95 a kilo.

Thanks all for you input. How well do they freeze? Going to my daughter in laws for xmas, she does not want me to bring anything, thought I would buy a ham a week or so out from xmas and put it in her freezer.

Always plenty around before Xmas. We freeze half of ours, always boneless though. Not perfect but pretty good after freezing. If you don't open it it will keep till after xmas anyway.

Keep a look out on the ingredients - so many now inject MSG into them, and finding a ham which is ethically raised and won't send my heart into orbit is getting more and more difficult.

Why put a ham into her freezer if she doesn't want it?
Ask her what she wants and bring that.
Or offer to help with something - looking after kids, older relations, the dessert, whatever .
