I am testing it and then re boiling but it doesnt seem to be getting to the set stage and its been boiling for 20mins! HELP

You need to keep it at a rolling boil not a simmer for at least 20mins and the juice of a lemon also to help set. Depending on how ripe your plums were it could take 30-40mins before it will set. Also remember that homemade jam doesn't generally set as hard as bought jam
