Nuts in the Christmas cake

calista, Dec 20, 11:55pm
This year I am making a Christmas cake that contains nuts. It's so long since I've made one I can't remember whether or not to chop them.I would rather not, but will it make a difference to how it cooks!

I know it's late to be doing it, but the blokey rum and raisin ones came first.

Tia for any advice.

I used walnuts, so yes I chopped them up roughly. I imagine you would find it hard to cut your cake if the nuts were not chopped!

I add macadamia (!sp), and roughly chop

OK, roughly chop it is -thanks.

I forgot macadamias as I didn't see any, however there's always next year.

I've just made Alison Holst's Catherdal Window Cake which is solid with a mixture of nuts and dried fruits held together with half a cup of flour, eggs etc and is divine!

Thanks nzhel - that might be my christmas cake for next year.I've always been fascinated by that recipe.

Thechallenge with having nuts in a cake is not eating them before I bake the cake.
