Pepper (the spice) is Piper Nigrum. Pepper as in the vegetable is capsicums.both different. Which pepper do you mean! Peppercorns - are the dried berry of the Piper Nigrum vine. Green when unripe (and you get white pepper if dried at this stage), then turning red, ripe - dried into black pepper. Peppercorns can be whole or ground to pepper powder.
