How long ago did you pickle them!I'm wondering (if it was recently) whether they'll settle downwards once they've absorbed the pickling juices.

When you poured in your juice did you release the airbubbles in the jar ! this may cause them to float to the top.

I have been bottling pickled onions for years and they always lift from the bottom no matter how tightly they are packed, there is nothing wrong with them.
