I am looking at the fresh one but is it worth spending the big money, at this stage i will be happy to make feta cottage cheese etc, can you make curd aswell with this kit! Or is it cheaper to buy the equipment seperate! advice please.

I have the Artisan's One Day kit and it paid for itself in about six weeks.I make feta, haloumi, ricotta, mascarpone and crème fraîche. You probably could piece together the various components yourself but the kit has everything you need and it is all the right size for 4 litres of milk.

I prefer the Mapua Country Trading kits personally.

You don't need to buy a special kit.It is easy to gather things together yourself very cheaply. One of my moulds is a plastic container with holes bored through it for the whey to dripthrough.Buy rennet from supermarket - Renco.Measuring cup $1.50 from chemist.Big knife for cutting curd - whatever you have at home.Just need to get cultures - go direct to Chr Hansen.Much cheaper.

I find it depends how well informed you are inthe art of cheese making. When i started out was glad of a kit, had the beginners mad millie one. Now i'm with vmax2,things you need are all round the kitchen usually. I even tried making a culture, its learn as you go for me.
