Onion Pakora recipe?

I treat myself to these from the food hall at Bayfair on the odd time I get to go there. Would love to try them at home. Seems like they are mashed pumkin or potato with nice spices & chopped up onions then deep fried. NOT the ones made with batter & veg dipped & deep fried.

2 Med Onions
1/2c Chickpea flour
1/4c Rice Flour
1tsp Chopped Green Chili * optional
1/2t Cumin Powder
1/2t Chili powder *optional
1 Sprig of Curry leaves - chopped (not really optional! but hard to find)
salt to taste
Pinch of Baking soda

Oil to fry in

Peal and Chop onions into slices

Combine Cumin and both flours along with salt, chili (dry and or fresh), curry leaves and baking soda.

Mix in onions

Add just enough water to make a thick batter (so it all sticks nicely)

Heat oil for frying

Fry small amounts until golden and cooked through.

They are a fave of mine at the moment so the Indian man at the curry shop was nice enough to tell me how they are made.

Moshims in Tauranga should have curry leaves

That's quite a good price - curry plants are scarce and slow-growing.I would hate to be without ours, which has reached about a metre in height in a big pot over the past six years or so.

Mine are flowering for the second time this year - hopefully this time we might get seed - they are supposedly both be seedlings so not identical plants (cuttings).

Really! That's impressive.Ours seems to be very happy in its new home and is putting new sprigs almost daily, but no flowers.
