I bought a bread maker today and making a wholemeal loaf, the recipe says 1tabs of treacle and I dont have any is it just for the colour! or could I add golden syrup instead.

most recipes suggest sugar I use honey so yeah you could use golden syrup I suppose. happy baking

I use golden syrup in my old panasonic bread maker and I also use oil instead of butter as i find the bread keeps soft longer.Yesterday i made foccacia bread with oregano, basil and paprika.really good.

or you could use brown sugar or malt both work fine with Wholemeal.
