I am making some cookies that require 1 tsp of bicarb and 2 tsp of cream of tarter.I am going to substitute them and use baking powder instead as I dont have cream of tarter.my question is how much baking powder do i use instead of these other 2 ingrediants, thanks

Baking powder is made up of: 2 parts cream of tartar and 1 part Bicarbonate of soda.

By my calculations that means the mix you are using is precisely 3tspns of baking powder.

May I also add that you should not use heaped measures. Be precise.

Yes be precise, you only start to to guess with experience :-)

I have years and years of weekly baking experience and I still never guess. I always measure precisely, even when making bread.

Good on you then buzzy.I don't make bread because I would only eat it

agree three tspn of baking powder should do the trick. The recipe is basically making it's own baking powder.

Gawd 3 tsp of BP would make 3 full trays of biscuits

buzzy110, Oct 21, 10:57pm
Rflmao. What about cakes, sweets and biscuits! I don't make those unless they are for others, for the same reason - I'd eat them.

I would go buy some cream of tarter. How much flour are you dealing with!, or, use self raising flour maybe.
