ok 125g butter, 125g sugar, half tspn essence of lemon, 1 egg, 25g (8oz flour) 1 tspn baking powder. Beat butter and sugar to a cream,add essence.Break in the egg and beat well.Add sifted flour and baking powder.Roll out thin,cut into shapes.Bake 15 to 20 minutes at 190c (375F)Put together with jam or lemon filling.

recipe in Edmonds definitely states 25g (8oz) flour.

you are so right,mistake in book,have just looked up conversion chart 8oz = 225g.
