1 1/4 cups porridge
3 cups cold water
1/4 tsp salt

Place the rolled oats, water and salt into a casserole dish (6 cup capacity)
Place dish on a trivet or preserving jar ring in the crockpot. Do not cover the dish or add water to the crockpot.
Place lid on crockpot and cook on low/auto for 8 - 10 hours
Stir well before servingServes 4

Personally I have never found it a great success.Cheers

I do it all the time. I buy wholegrain oats - healthier and cheaper and the stand up to long slow cooking. Make it up according to the packet, depending on brand. I use 1/3 milk 2/3 water for extra creaminess. Sometimes I drop a few sultanas and grated apple and a pinch of cinnamon in for something different.

Cook on low for 6 hours (I use a timer, bought for under $8 from The Warehouse). Time it to turn off half an hour before the kids want it.

I dont put it in a separate dish either. Its lovely.

I use the Joan Bishop recipe all the time in Winter.Never had a problem with it,It always turns out nice and creamy. I usually add sultanas, apple & sliced almonds, maybe a little pinch of cinnamon too.
